The Hair Growth Cycle
Understanding Hair Before Removing It.
Hair grows in repetitive biological cycles, and laser hair removal is only effective during a specific phase of this cycle.
There are three stages of hair growth:

Anagen (Active Growth Phase)
During this phase, the hair is actively growing and remains attached to the dermal papilla. The follicle contains the highest concentration of melanin, allowing the laser energy to be effectively absorbed.
This is the only stage in which the hair follicle can be permanently disabled.
Catagen (Transition Phase)
Hair growth slows and the follicle begins to shrink. The hair gradually detaches from its blood supply, reducing the effectiveness of laser treatment.
Telogen (Resting Phase)
The hair is no longer actively growing and will eventually shed. A new hair begins forming underneath, entering the next Anagen phase.
*At any given time, only approximately 15–30% of hairs are in the Anagen phase.
Because laser treatment can only target hairs in this active stage, multiple sessions spaced several weeks apart are required to achieve optimal and long-term reduction.
Average Treatment Plan:
| Area | Sessions Needed | Interval |
| Face | 6–8 sessions | Every 4 weeks |
| Body | 6–8 sessions | Every 6–8 weeks |
| Hormonal areas (chin, jawline) | 8–10 sessions | Individualized |
How Laser Hair Removal Works
Laser hair removal is a medical-grade technology designed to permanently reduce unwanted hair by targeting the hair follicle at its root. Learn how the process works, why treatment is performed in stages, and what to expect throughout your journey.
The Science Behind Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal works through a principle known as selective photothermolysis. Specific wavelengths of light are delivered into the skin and selectively absorbed by melanin within the hair shaft. The light energy is converted into controlled heat, which travels down to the follicle and disrupts its ability to regrow hair — while preserving the surrounding skin tissue.
Because melanin is the target chromophore, hair that is darker and thicker typically responds more efficiently. However, modern multi-wavelength systems now allow safe and effective treatment across a wide range of skin tones.

Advanced Technology: InMode Triton
At Lothéra Spa, we use the InMode Triton laser system, a multi-wavelength platform designed to treat all skin types safely and effectively, including darker skin tones.
Triton combines three clinically proven wavelengths:
–1064nm (Nd:YAG) – deeper penetration with enhanced safety for darker skin types
–755nm (Alexandrite) – highly effective for lighter skin types and finer hair
–810nm (Diode) – versatile and suitable for most skin tones
The goal is progressive permanent reduction, not shaving or waxing-level temporary removal.
